Hello, I am one of many new Backdrop users. I am sitebuilder of many Drupal 7 and Drupal 9,10 websites. With end of life of Drupal 7 I came here and I am impressed with your effort, thank You. I already started migration of easy site and I am very impressed.

I have some fundamental questions.

  1. There are many modules in backdrop  now - will all of them be still supported even with end of life od Drupal 7? Does end of life of Drupal mean something for support of backdrop?
  2. Should I migrate web to Backdrop version 1 now, or should I wait for version 2? How difficult will be upgrade to version 2?
  3. How long will be version 1 of backdrop supported?
  4. Will all modules be ready for Backdrop version 2 same dathe version 2 will be released?

Thank you a lot!

This is the latest thinking about Backdrop 2.0

https://backdropcms.org/news/what-will-happen-in-backdrop-2x

I would migrate to Backdrop 1 now. Upgrading to 2.0 should be very easy.  Modules are working towards it now. As deprecated functions are found in modules and reported, these can be removed.

Different modules, like in Drupal, receive different levels of attention.  If no-one reports deprecated functions, then they are less likely to get fixed, unless the maintainer takes time to proactively seek them out.

No firm decisions yet on timetable, but I can see 1.x continuing to be supported for a period of time after the release of 2.x

I hope that this response provides assurance, but if you have any further questions please ask.
