I'm not able to reproduce this behavior. I only get this behavior if I visit node/add/page and then re-open node/add/page from the admin menu (effectively opening the page twice in a row). I think this is the expected behavior in this case, since the previous page was node/add/page

Just go to the menu where you want to add your link.
Add your link and in the path search for "user". It's done.
No need to use a token.
Or perhaps this ? menu_attributes

Oh thanx ! I had an "old" text format that I had disabled. I re-enabled this format in the field body with the permissions and the field comes back for editing.
