On the homepage (https://backdropcms.org) the link "Developer Documentation (API)" is misleading as it leads to the general documentation (after a 301 redirect).
I would suggest to rename it "Documentation".

I think, the user simply will not be allowed to create / edit / view node. This should not somehow affect to existing publications. Current rights and publication status have no connection.
