I have the following paragraph types on my site: "Paragraphs of images only" and "Paragraphs of text only". This suits my need for a layout that comprises a set of photos followed by relevant text, more photos, more text, etc.

Trouble is on some of my pages I've got 10 sets of photos and 10 or more bits of text. I've been pondering over whether there is a way to have each paragraph labeled  in some way so I can easily identify the one I need to edit. Here's what I see...

What I can't figure out how to do is have it read

"Paragraph type: Text Only (Multiple Use) [Label]"  <-- what I'm trying to say is "is there a way to add a text field to the Admin label by means of some coding or special variables"? e.g Admin label: Text Only {%s special code to allow input %t} <-- entirely fictional! 

 

I still consider myself a novice on BD as I've really only learned new tings as and when I need them... be kind to me and speak in simple terms please.

You can go to Admin > Structure > Paragraph Types > Your paragraph Type > Manage displays > Paragraphs Editor Preview and adjust what shows there.

The path will be something like:

admin/structure/paragraphs/image-single/display/paragraphs_editor_preview

Where  image-single is the  machine name of your paragraph type with underscores (_) replaced with hypens (-).

What I often to is use the thumbnail for images and either the paragraph title or trimmed text to let you know what is inside.

Here is an example from a site I'm currently building for a client:

Hi yorkshirepudding - once again you leap to my rescue!

I thought I had it sussed after reading your reply but I found that creating a new field called Description, hiding the label and setting the format to "Trimmed (100 char)" results in a new field (funny that) that displays on the page just above the actual text contained in the "Para Type Text Only".

Clearly I have not understood fully what you are saying... any further help?

Hi Ian...,

Can you explain why you are using Paragraphs for this? Is it because you have a specific requirement that is only filled by Paragraphs?  There are other ways to create an image gallery... 

Can you explain in more detail why you've chosen Paragraphs to fulfil your needs, and maybe we can help you with a more user-friendly solution.

Have you heard about our Backdrop Live event happening today and tomorrow...

Steve - long story short - this is a legacy site that was ported from Drupal 7 and had some tinkering done to it so that Brilliant Gallery code was interpreted. This avoided rewriting a few thousand pages...

I was pointed toward Paragraphs as a quick way to retain the layout of the site pages which is usually some photos, some text, more photos, more text, more photos, more text.... you get the picture!

I researched a lot of different ways to do things but honestly this (paragraphs) just fits the bill as I found I could add Paragraphs after the body field in the old pages meaning they became a lot easier to update.

Hadn't heard about the Backdrop live event.
