Is there a way in which one person can make some draft changes to a published node which get provisionally saved before being checked and published by a co-worker?

If is funny you should ask that question. We've been actively working on just such a feature.

I don't think there is a way to do this yet in Backdrop CMS. BUT, I am optimistic that we might get this into the next minor release of Backdrop CMS, in just over a month.

I have a client asking for this capability. I have had a look at the issue (4354)

and it could be just what we need. Thank you.

I think it's a good idea to post a comment in that issue expressing interest in the feature. I find that the more people show interest in a feature, the more likely it gets attention.

I have posted a comment there. I'm willing and keen to do some testing when there is a PR.

There is a PR for this and it is in active development; I'm working on it as we speak. We were slowed down by the need to hammer out the right approach and terminology (I confused things by attaching the PR to an issue about revision states instead of forward revisions) but that was recently cleared up after Tim and Jen had a meeting about it. So we're on track again. I'll have something out by next week or sooner.

As to the original question, no, nothing in contrib to do this yet; we bypassed contrib and went straight for a core PR because this looks like important/basic functionality.
