I have a project that I need to create something that works like a book, with some table of contents , I am thinking for the book module, but I can see Drupal 11 remove the book module to become a third party module alreayd , am wondering if the book module in BD here how long will stay or any plan to discontinue the book module, if the book module wihtin the core forever then I would like to use, if it become a third party module in the future then I would be careful to see if I should use.

Good question.

If the book module were to be removed from core, this would only happen with the release of Backdrop 2.0. While some people have mentioned this as a possibility, I have not had the feeling that removing book from core is a priority for anyone.

We have been fixing bugs to the book module and even adding a few small features to the book module in core. So, I would be very suprised if we did decide to remove it from core.

I know that at least one of our core maintainers is a fan of the book module. I am personally a fan of the book module and use it on several projects.

The worst case scenario for the book module is that it becomes a contrib module. But, while I think this is unlikely, I can not give any concrete assurances that it will be in core forever.

As a fan of the book module, I am not worried about some level of ongoing support for the book module.

NOTE: I just checked the core issue queue and could NOT find any open issue advocating that the book module should be removed from core. This is a very strong indication that it is likely to stay in core in version 2.0 of Backdrop CMS.

There are no plans to remove it. As one of the core committers I've just used it for a client project, which they've found quite useful.

I use book quite a bit and cannot see any benefit from removing from core.
