I just enabled display on a taxonomy field and am having trouble with the display. Terms from the "tags" vocabulary render correctly if I choose the "Link" format under "Manage displays" but this other vocabulary doesn't have "Link" as an option under Format.
If I use "Rendered entity", it ends up with an <h2> tag which I don't want.
The other options don't give a link at all. Where do I configure this so it works similar to Tags, and has the Link option?

I suspect your "subject" field is not a term reference, but rather an entity reference field. So, try using a term reference field instead.
If you do need to use an entity reference field there, then you can choose "Rendered entity". You can then override the template (tpl.php file) for that particular entity to tweak the markup.
