Well here I thought I was ready to go live and I've hit another stumbling block.... I have installed XML Sitemap module and activated it plus XML Sitemap Engines and XML Sitemap Node. I've edited content types so that Page, Stories, and Toy Page types are included in the sitemap. I've rebuilt the links as only the Home page was showing as included and it now appears there are around 1500 links in the sitemap.

Under settings, however, only Google shows although the (very limited) documentation states "The sitemap created by the module can be automatically submitted to Ask, Google, Bing (formerly Windows Live Search), and Yahoo! search engines."

What am I missing here? There doesn't seem to be an additional "module" to activate the other search engines...

BTW It would be really good if there were some decent installation and set-up instructions for this module, something a LOT of Backdrop CMS and its modules seem to be missing. While the forum is excellent in getting answers, I'd rather be able to go and research it on-line somewhere (even if only via Google) - is this lack of support resources going to hold back Backdrop in the future?

Accepted answer

@ian - they can't be as far as we know, not automatically anyway.

That's why they were removed from the functionality, but unfortunately they were not removed from the documentation. That should now be corrected.

And it is people like you that make finding one's way a little easier!

Thanks @yorkshirepudding for all the help you have given me as I stumble my way through learning the intricacies of Backdrop.

Now can anyone explain where/if I've gone wrong?

And just like that the Readme is fixed !

They're not all that fast

Is the issue that 1500 is too many or too little?

@yorkshirepudding - Sorry mate... no the issue is I can't find how to submit to the other search engines... only Google shows up in the search engines tab, but the documentation says it does Bing, Yahoo and Ask as well...

Well that explains everything then! :D I'll stop wasting time and get things moving again!
