In the spirit of celebrating 10 years of Backdrop I thought it might be fun to invite people to write stories about Drop the Dragon with full mythological license. So, I went ahead and wrote a story https://backdropcms.org/news/the-legend-of-drop-the-dragon weaving fact and fiction. I hope I have not offended anyone who has been a part of the real journey by the use of their name in the story. I hope you enjoy it and welcome any comments and also interest from others who have stories they would like to share about Drop the Dragon.

@izmeez - I love your story. But, I've heard a different tale of Drop the Dragon. One told in part by a mysterious AI wizard who goes by the name of Claude. The original story, as told by Claude, was not entirely legible and I had to fill in some of the details myself.

But, here is the story, as I found it in the ancient caves under Oakland, CA and later interpreted it.

Drop the Bug-Hunting Dragon

In the digital kingdom of Backdrop, there lives a special dragon named Drop. Unlike other dragons who collect gold or jewels, Drop has a very particular passion: hunting and squashing bugs.

Drop was born ten years ago when the great wizards of Backdrop forked their magic from the ancient realm of Drupal. As the kingdom's official mascot and guardian, Drop took on the sacred duty of working with the mysterious and legendary cadre of Core Committers to keep Backdrop's code clean and functional.

Day and night, Drop patrols the kingdom's codebase, hunting down bugs that threaten to disrupt the harmony of websites throughout the realm. With lightning-fast reflexes and keen eyes, he spots even the tiniest of bugs hiding in the deepest corners of themes, layouts, and modules.

In their role as protector and guardian, Drop deals with many types of bugs. Most commonly facing flies, otherwise known as UI/UX glitches, and beetles which are sometimes referred to as deep structural logic bugs. Most mysterious amongst the bugs are the butterflies - unintended side-effect bugs which cause ripple effects in places most unexpected.

But long ago, Drop encountered a special CLI creature called Bee. While Bee took the shape of a bug, it turns out that Bees are not bugs. Bee is in fact a special creature that helps Backdrop developers and site owners manage and protect their websites. Drop recognizes Bee as an ally and friend and takes great care to avoid disrupting Bee as Bee goes about its important work.

And so, whenever the deadline for a new release of Backdrop CMS approaches, Drop can be found zooming around with determination, carefully avoiding Bee, while hunting down every last fly, beetle, and butterfly to ensure that Backdrop CMS remains one of the most stable and bug-free CMSs in all the digital realms.

@stpaultim Thank you, that's great. I just knew there had to be more to know about Drop the Dragon. I also enjoyed playing "Drop the Bug Hunter". It's almost as much fun as a daily stromp through the issue queue.
